View Public ProfileDistinguished and Famous people from Bentleigh
Bentleigh's public life includes elected representation and a strong tradition of local sport. The people below connect those activities with broader work in government and the recording of Australian football history.
🤝 Nick Staikos
Nick Staikos has described education as a major motivation for entering public life. A lifelong resident of the Bentleigh electorate, he served on Glen Eira Council and worked for state and federal politicians before winning the Bentleigh seat in 2014. His parliamentary profile records interests in schools, sporting facilities, transport and local health services. His career links municipal experience with state government, where he later held ministerial responsibilities. The local connection is residence and elected service, rather than an assumed birthplace.
📚 Russell Holmesby
Football writer and historian Russell Holmesby has a documented association with Bentleigh Football Netball Club. When its sixtieth anniversary was marked in Victorian parliament in 2025, he was acknowledged as a club stalwart who had helped supply its history. His wider work includes co-authoring the Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers with Jim Main, editing Inside Football and writing histories of St Kilda. The same interest in preserving football's record extends from a local club's beginnings to the careers of league players.
